Do not Just see it, experience it! - This one-week trip packs in all the highlights of beautiful Guatemala, from touring Mayan ruins and climbing an active volcano to exploring the stunning landscape. Hike, and kayak around the country as you discover the picturesque colonial city of Antigua, the magic of Lake Atitlan, and the history of Mayan civilization at Tikal.

Itinerary

After landing at Guatemala City airport, you'll be driven to your hotel in the colorful city of Antigua, about 45 minutes away. Where you will stay for three nights.

Our tour starts with a morning transfer (1:20hr) to the foothills of the active Pacaya volcano. The hike then begins with a fairly strenuous hike through wonderful pine forest up to the trickier molten rock area where hot steam seeps through crevices in the base of the volcano. Guests learn about the formation and evolution of the volcano as they traverse its ever changing face. On the hike we can enjoy great views to the northern volcanoes, the pacific lowlands and all the way to El Salvador. Then enjoy a picnic lunch at 8,300 feet (2,530 m) with panoramic views of the valley and city below. Make your way back to Antigua in the late afternoon, and spend the rest of the day exploring all it has to offer.

Snack on delicious street food like tostadas, grilled corn, and stuffed plantains, and sample locally-grown coffee while you people-watch in the main plaza, Parque Central. If you're not too tired, check out the nightlife, or take a salsa lesson and dance the night away.

Switching gears today, you'll be driven to the stunning Lake Atitlan, about two to three hours west of Antigua. There you'll meet your local guide, who will take you on a private boat tour of the lake. You'll stop at a few of the small Mayan villages that dot the shores, and delve into the local arts, history, and customs of Guatemala's indigenous people.

In the afternoon, you'll have leisure time at your beautiful lakefront hotel in the village of Santa Cruz la Laguna. Gaze out onto Atitlan's serene blue waters and watch the incredible sunset behind the volcanic mountains from the comfort of your room.

Today guests are met at the hotel then travel by boat to our kayaking starting point. Here, they will paddle along the lake shore for about 1hr or 1.5hrs. As you reach a small village of Tzununa you change your gear and continue for about 2hrs hiking along an ancient trail, and enjoy magnificent views, and surronding volcanoes. You will have lunch at a great restaurant that offers rewarded views of volcanoes and Lake Atitlan. Aft the adventure, you will have to time to swim and relax at your hotel.

Today we have left a free day for you to enjoy and explore the lake on your own. You can book a different tour, climb a more challenging volcanoe "Volcan San Pedro", take a cooking class with a local Mayan Family, go birdwatching or simply stay at your hotel and relax.

Travel to Peten, "Tikal", with visit of Traditional Market of Sololá known as the main and most important town of Lake Atitlan and for having one of Central America's finest local markets. A mesmeric display of colors and commerce called "a walking museum of fancy dress" by Aldous Huxley.  After a nice visit at this colorful market then continue for about 3.5hrs to Guatemala City and connect with your flight to Flores, Peten.

In Peten our driver, will be waiting for you and then take you straight to your hotel.

Today you will explore the ancient Mayan temples, palaces, and public squares set deep in the jungle at Tikal. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was once a major center of Mayan power and influence, featuring evidence of sophisticated urban planning and artistic achievements. There's even a ball court!

Enjoy lunch in the park amid the tropical rainforest, and keep an eye out for some of the fascinating wildlife that calls the national park home. You'll see monkeys, brightly colored birds, and maybe even big cats like jaguars. In the late afternoon, you'll return to Flores and catch a flight back to Guatemala City, where you'll stay for your last night.

It's time to say goodbye to Guatemala! After breakfast, pack your things and head to the airport for your flight home.
